First Friday is back at Poster House—now open even later! On Friday November 5, the museum will be open for free with extended hours till 10pm! Stop by and see current exhibitions and join in the fun by attending an activity, workshop, or performance throughout the day. Every First Friday is different, offering unique opportunities to engage with rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection. Reserve your ticket or sign up for an activity today! 4pm: Curatorial Tour of The Push Pin Legacy
Join Poster House’s Chief Curator Angelina Lippert for a curatorial tour unlike any other. This in-person tour of the museum’s latest exhibition The Push Pin Legacy will explore the incredible impact Push Pin Studios had on the resurgence and evolution of American commercial illustration. Learn about the origins of the iconic design studio and see many of the works that launched the careers of design legends such as Seymour Chwast, Edward Sorel, Paul Davis, and many more. Questions strongly encouraged!
5:30pm: Curatorial Tour of You Won’t Bleed Me
Join special guest Adam Howard for an in-person curatorial tour of theexhibition You Won’t Bleed Me where you will get acquainted with the larger-than-life figures of Blaxploitation cinema while exploring the cultural and historic context of these posters. Questions strongly encouraged!
6:30pm: Blacula Movie Screening
Spooky season isn’t over yet! Poster House’s Blaxploitation movie series continues with the 1972 thriller, Blacula. Billed as “the first Black horror film,” this campy cult classic might just scare your socks off. Space is limited for this intimate screening, so be sure to reserve your tickets in advance! *Note: Due to adult content, guests must be 18+ to attend.
8pm: DJ Ciara Chaii
DJ Ciara Chaii is back once again to close out First Friday! Join her in the Café as she spins hits inspired by the musical references in current exhibitions. From disco to funk, Aretha to Mahalia, DJ Ciara Chaii will make sure to send you into the weekend in true ‘70s style. Bring your dancing shoes and hit the floor!
This event is in person at Poster House, with masks required. Poster House operates in compliance with the Key to NYC mandate. All museum visitors older than 12 must show proof that they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination records and IDs will be checked upon entry.
